How this tool works
Paste English prose and run the analysis. Word, sentence and estimated syllable counts feed approximate Flesch Reading Ease and grade-level scores.
Understand the results
These formulas use heuristics and are intended for English. Names, abbreviations, numbers and technical vocabulary can distort results. A score does not measure accuracy, usefulness or accessibility by itself.

Frequently asked questions
Can it accurately score every language?
No. Its syllable and sentence heuristics are intended for English. A readability score also does not measure factual accuracy or overall quality.
Is Readability Checker free?
Yes. This public tool does not require an account, payment or subscription.
Where is my input processed?
The tool-specific processing runs in your browser. Website delivery still involves hosting requests; see the privacy policy for details. Read the privacy policy.
What is a good Flesch reading ease score?
60 to 70 is plain English that most adults read easily. 30 to 50 is fairly difficult, typical of academic or legal writing. Higher scores are easier.
How do I improve my readability score?
Use shorter sentences, split long paragraphs, and swap long words for common ones (“use” instead of “utilise”). Read the text aloud: where you run out of breath, the sentence is too long.
Does it work for Arabic?
No. The Flesch formulas count English syllables, so the score is only meaningful for English text.
