Frequently asked questions
Does the builder collect analytics?
No. It creates a tagged URL. Reporting depends on the destination’s analytics setup. UTM values are public, so do not include personal data or secrets.
Is UTM Campaign URL Builder free?
Yes. This public tool does not require an account, payment or subscription.
Where is my input processed?
The tool-specific processing runs in your browser. Website delivery still involves hosting requests; see the privacy policy for details. Read the privacy policy.
What are UTM parameters?
UTM parameters are tags added to a link, such as utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=ramadan_sale. Google Analytics 4 reads them to show which campaign, channel and ad brought each visitor.
Which UTM fields are required?
Use utm_source (where the traffic comes from), utm_medium (the channel, such as email, cpc or social) and utm_campaign (the campaign name). utm_term and utm_content are optional for keywords and ad variants.
Should UTM values be lowercase?
Yes. GA4 treats “Instagram” and “instagram” as different sources, so pick lowercase values and a naming rule your team follows every time.
Can I use UTM links on internal links?
No. Tagging links between pages of your own site overwrites the original source of the visit and breaks your reports. Use UTMs only on links placed outside your site.
Why use this tool
Campaign URL builder for GA4, with clean naming
Without UTM tags, traffic from WhatsApp broadcasts, influencer posts, QR codes and email newsletters often lands in GA4 as “direct” or “unassigned”, so you cannot tell what worked. Tagging every outside link takes seconds and makes your marketing reports trustworthy.
This builder checks the destination URL, encodes values safely and replaces existing utm_ values so you never end up with duplicate tags. See Google’s guide to custom campaign URLs for the official definitions.
